Polyethylene (PE)
Polyethylene (PE) is a semi-crystalline commodity. Polyethylene can be classified into different groups depending on its density and the lateral branches on the polymer chains: UHMWPE – Ultra high molecular weight, HDPE – High density, MDPE – Medium density, LLDPE – Linear low density, LDPE – Low density, PEX – Cross-linked. When polymerizing ethylene to polyethylene, there are various processes resulting in more or less lateral branches on the molecular chains. A smaller number of lateral braces give a higher crystallinity, molecular weight and density.
